Business Development Manager – Surgical AI
As a Business Development Manager / Country Manager for a specialist digital health company, you’ll be the first commercial hire in the UK – taking an AI-powered operating room coordination platform that is already delivering measurable improvements in surgical efficiency across European hospitals to the UK.
- You’ll manage the full medical sales cycle from prospecting to close, targeting NHS and private hospitals with a focus on operating theatre and perioperative stakeholders. With no direct reports to begin with, you are the UK business, and this is a hunter role.
- The AI-driven platform is already in active use in surgical departments across Europe, delivering significant improvements in operating room efficiency, theatre utilisation, and patient flow. You’ll be bringing a proven solution to a market that needs it, supported by an established international team.
- Alongside winning new clients, you’ll be getting the company onto relevant NHS procurement frameworks and feeding UK market intelligence back to product and leadership teams.
- Home-based with regular travel to hospitals across the UK, plus attendance at relevant trade shows and industry events.
COMPANY
- A well-funded European digital health startup with an established, growing customer base in the surgical sector. The mobile, subscription-based platform is used in real time by operating theatre teams and integrates with existing hospital IT systems. The culture is entrepreneurial and collaborative – this is a rare opportunity to shape the UK market and join a company with real momentum.
REQUIREMENTS
- Proven success in medical sales within the operating theatre or perioperative space, with hands-on knowledge of operating room workflows and the clinical environment. This is a specific requirement – experience outside of the perioperative setting is unlikely to be sufficient on its own. Backgrounds in surgical video, imaging, endoscopy, or camera stack technology – or comparable technology, where selling means integrating into the hospital’s existing technology environment – are particularly relevant.
- At least three years of full medical sales cycle ownership with a surgical product solution, well-established NHS relationships and the ability to navigate complex, multi-stakeholder deals from first meeting to signature. You’ll need to be highly self-motivated and comfortable building from scratch without a local support structure around you.
- Previous experience as a Business Development Manager, Market Development Manager, or similar commercial lead is great; someone who has owned and grown a clinical market, managing the complete sales process from prospecting to close. However, a hungry candidate ready to take on full market ownership for the first time is welcome to apply.
- Based in England, with a full UK driving licence and right to work in the UK without restriction. Suitable locations include (but are not limited to): London, Oxford, Bristol, Birmingham, Derby, Nottingham, Leicester, Cambridge, Sheffield, Leeds, Manchester and Liverpool.
PACKAGE
- Salary guide: base up to circa £75,000 (negotiable), with uncapped OTE taking total earning potential well above £100,000, plus car allowance, pension, and benefits.
